Cecilia:
Translator and Assistant of Y+ Inspya Teachers’ Training
Graduate of 2007 Y+ Inspya Professional Yoga Teachers’ Training

I enrolled myself only wishing to improve my practice and provide myself with new career development. However it was eye-opening journey. The change has been profound – we were exposed by the experienced masters to the philosophy system and asanas. We were advised to apply the philosophy into our daily life – job, relationship or family life, with joy, compassion and a clear mind. Only when the training has finished, I realize my journey of self-improvement has began.

AppendicesⅠ: Module Description

-Foundation Knowledge-

Pranayama
Pranayama class starts at 6:15 every morning.  It combines chanting, sitting meditation and basic pranayama skills.  It’s a deep journey leading you into your unknown-self by simply focusing on every breath. The Y+ Inspya team will help you to understand this ancient art, and how it can help your daily life.

Asana
On the way to becoming a professional yoga teacher, the precise alignment of the body, and knowledge of the biomechanics of every posture is essential.  Our instructors will lead the students through the key postures, such as sitting, standing, bends, twists etc to ensure that a solid foundation is established.

Anatomy
Yoga is a science working on human body. In the anatomy course, we combine anatomy with asana (posture) so that students will get a better understanding of the human body.  In addition students will learn how injuries could be avoided during yoga practice and hence prevent such incidents from happening to themselves or in their future classes.

Philosophy
Our program reaches deep into the roots of Yoga, explaining it’s history, it’s philosophy, and how these ideas can be applied in our modern world. We believe that the truth you get from a philosophy class should have a real impact and continue outside of the classroom.  Experience, feel, think… then take these ideas and apply to your practice and to your life.

 -Applied Teaching Tools-

Adjusting skills and propping
Props play an important part in helping students to map the right posture alignment it is important the students understand the use of props for different asanas.

Formatting & Sequencing
Every yoga class has unique sequences working on energy flowing and chakras. We will introduce the most fundamental guidelines for designing a class.

Teaching Beginners
Beginners are the most difficult students while at the same time, most important students for yoga. Providing them sufficient knowledge and preventing them from injuries are our main focus in this class.

Bhajans
Bhajans is one the most practicing skills in Bakti Yoga. Open your heart and surrender yourself to the sacred chanting, it’s an entire inner journey which will eventually lead you to the divine-self.

Ethical Guidelines
Yoga teacher is an ethical sample for all the un-awake beings. Students need to learn and understand the need to follow these guidelines to be the future role models to others.

Teaching Methodology
Different postures have different focus and benefitsl to our body. We group the different postures and provide the basic knowledge.

Practical Teaching
Challenge yourself and face the deepest fear is the key point in practical teaching. By pushing yourself to the limit you will embrace a brand new world.

Practical Assessment
Our advanced teachers will give you a detailed assessment and valuable advice for your performance.

AppendicesⅡ: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How proficient in yoga do I need to be to complete the teacher training?
A: The Y+ INSPYA Teacher Training courses include daily asana practice. We strongly recommend that applicants have a consistent asana practice and are relatively comfortable practicing daily.
People with a foundation in the basic and fundamental yoga postures are suited for this training. An advanced practitioner is not necessarily a person who can move deeply into advanced postures; an advanced practitioner is someone who comes to the mat with a level of maturity, a willingness to learn and an understanding of the limits of their own body.

This course is not ideally suited to people completely new to yoga and we recommend you develop your asana practice first through regular classes to learn the fundamentals of yoga basics. During the training you will deepen your understanding of the asanas while simultaneously learning how to teach.

If you have a regular yoga practice you may be more ready than you realise. We encourage you to call Y+ Yoga Center and talk to our consultant if you're uncertain of your suitability for the training.

Q: Is the training an asana intensive?
A: No, the training is not an extreme yoga asana intensive. It is designed as a fun and interactive course that is focused on achieving a holistic knowledge of yoga and gaining the skills necessary to teach yoga to others with awareness and understanding.

Q: What style of yoga is taught - hatha, iyengar, vinyasa flow or other?
A: Most of the teachers are Iyengar and hot trained. Our emphasis in asana is on posture and correct alignment rather than a particular style.

Q: I want to enrol in the training to develop my own practice rather than teach, is this ok?
A: Yes, the course is also designed for those who may not wish to be teachers at this stage of their yoga journey, but would like to deepen their own practice and experience of yoga.

Q: I follow a different spiritual path (or I don’t have a spiritual path), is this ok?
A: Yes, our tradition respects and honors all paths. Yoga can only deepen your own spirituality.

Q: Are books and materials included in the price of the training?
A: No, we request that you purchase the recommended reading books prior to the training to gain the most from the experience (you can order from the Amazon website). The only supplied and included material is the Yoga Teacher Training Manuals. The manual will be handed out 1-2 months prior to the training.

Q: What is the typical age range of the students?
A: Students generally range from 20 to 55 years of age, with the average age of 28.

Q: Do I need to follow any ethical guidelines?
A: Yes, there are some simple guidelines to help create a yogic environment, conducive to study and learning. Trainees are expected to be cigarette, drug and alcohol free and are asked to maintain silence (where practical) within the premises and especially during the morning Pranayama and Meditation session. We request trainees be mindful that the Y+ Yoga Centre is a place of study and learning and that socialising can be done at the common rest area at the front of our studio.

Q: What happens if I miss a session or class on the timetable?
A: To obtain a certificate and letter of completion, you must attend 100 percent of the classes to comply with Yoga Alliance requirements. However, if due to unforeseeable circumstances or illness, we offer alternative arrangements for you to make up the session/s missed eg. joining part of a later course. Depending on length of absence, additional cost may be required.

Q: Will I have the opportunity to teach classes during the training?
A: Yes, you will have the opportunity to teach with your fellow trainees under supervision from a senior teacher during the practice and assessment.  You may also be able to assist and teach on an ongoing basis at Y+ Yoga Center if you have done well and will like to pursue a teaching career.

Q: What is the Yoga Alliance?
A: Yoga Alliance is an organization that was started in 1999 as a way to create nationally recognized standards for yoga teachers and yoga teacher trainings. More and more yoga studios across the world are requiring their teachers to register with Yoga Alliance, either at the 200 or 500 hour level. Yoga Alliance registration, however, is not a legal requirement for teaching yoga.

Q: Will I be qualified to teach yoga once I have completed the training?
A: With the successful completion of all the requirements of the 200 hour course, including contact hours, homework and assessment; you will receive a certificate evidencing your training at the 200 Hour Level. On completion of the training, trainees may apply to Yoga Alliance for 200-Hour Certification (RYT200). A fee is payable to Yoga Alliance.

The courses cover the necessary skills and knowledge in conducting a general class and would enable graduates to undertake the basic tasks in assisting in larger general and intermediate classes. We recommend you continue to develop your experience under supervision of a senior teacher.

Q: Is continuing education required to keep my certification?
A: We feel that continuing education is extremely valuable and will inspire you as a teacher. The modest minimum requirement for a Yoga Alliance registered teacher is 30 CE (continuing education credit) hours per year. However, even if you do not register yourself with Yoga Alliance, it is highly recommended that you attend workshops and trainings every year as a refresher course.  We will be offering more advanced Teacher Trainings in the near future, as well as continuing education workshops and specialist courses.

Q: What kind of ongoing support is available after my training?
A: All our training graduates are welcome to continue contacting us regarding questions and support. We offer a newsletter and updates on our webpage dedicated to the TT alumni, and discounts on future trainings and retreats.
